Brown eyes vs blue eyes; Reflection

The video we watched about discrimination is about a teacher who tried an experiment on her students. One time she favored the blue eyed students over the brown eyed. The blue eyed students started being mean to the brown eyed, but when she tried it the other way around. She was surprised because the brown eyed started being mean to the blue eyed even though they have experienced the feeling of discrimination. Later after many years the students had a reunion with their teacher. They said that by the experiment they understood the real meaning of discrimination.

The Reflection of the Culture Heritage

By: Fahad, Abdalla, Khalid, Ahmed, Mohamed

This video showed the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi city. Two tourists are interviewed by Abdulla. The tourists are from Britain and South Afrrica. The woman is dressed in Arab clothing and lived for 3 years in Egypt and she finds UAE culture much better. The young South African is an artist ; he enjoys living and working in the city of life Abu Dhabi. Abdulla introduces two things the Arabian coffee pot and coffe glass, when his hand is moving that means he wants more coffee. Fahad talks about the falcon and how he trains the falcon in the desert. Khaled talks about his cultural hertiage like hunting and fishing. In my opinion the video was giving the cultural hertiage  of the U.A.E.

Culture: the shared values, history, customs etc of a people.

Diversity: differences e.g. race, gender, economic status, religion etc.

Cultural diversity: a multicultural society where it is understood that each individual is different re. race, gender, economic status, religion, physical abilities etc. When this occurs we have social harmony i.e. peaceful co-existence of people from different backgrounds. In such a society there will be cross-cultural communication, where people from differing backgrounds can communicate and avoid conflicts and can even adopt aspects of other cultures i.e. acculturation. In this type of society there will be a widely-shared belief in human rights, basic freedoms which belong to all people regardless of colour, language, religion etc.

Bias:
If you are biased it means you have an idea that someone or something is superior to another for no logical reason. It is similar to prejudice, e.g. Racial prejudice in apartheid South Africa.

Culture shock:
This is when you find aspects of another culture so different from your own.

Demographics:
The study of population and its component parts.

Discrimination:
There was racial discrimination in apartheid South Africa. N.B. blue eyes v brown eyes.

Ethnic group:
It's a group which shares similar race, religion, language, what ever.

Ethnocentricity:
It's looking at the world from your own ethnic point of view; it implies that your ethnicity is superior

Expatriate:
Someone from one country living and working in another;not a tourist, not a businessman on a short visit.
